Religious Education
At Les Landes, we believe that teaching and learning in RE should stimulate curiosity and encourage a love of thinking and learning; about themselves, other people and the beliefs that people hold and the influence this has on them. Supporting our work in P4C and as a Rights Respecting School, the subject gives opportunity for empathy, high level thinking and reflective skills, and is a forum where divergent opinion is welcomed and respected. Though learning about others, their beliefs and practises, this subject gives children space to ponder life’s ‘big questions’: learning how religious and non-religious world views may inform their own thoughts, and how respect for all people and their views is important in the inclusive, diverse, community or the world around them, now and in their future. RE at Les Landes help children ask ‘big questions’ and find their own answers.
We follow the newly adopted 2023 Jersey Curriculum for RE.
Lessons are lively and engaging, involving trips to different places of worship (local churches, the Synagogue and Mosque), visiting speakers and engaging lessons where, the children may write poetry, draw out their ideas, play games or write their thoughts in a more extended piece of writing.
This video encapsulates much of what RE brings to children’s learning.
