Les Landes Curriculum

Intent

At Les Landes School, our intent is to provide a rich and challenging curriculum, designed with the belief that every child is unique and capable of achieving their full potential. It reflects our commitment to nurturing the whole child, supporting their academic, social, emotional, and physical development. The rationale behind our curriculum is to provide a foundation that equips all learners with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world. We aim to develop confident, creative, and critical thinkers who are not only prepared for future challenges but also take pride in contributing positively to their community and society. Rooted in the principles of equity and entitlement, our curriculum ensures every child, regardless of their background, has access to a high-quality education that celebrates diversity and promotes inclusion.

Implementation

To achieve our curriculum intent, we offer an enriched educational experience that ensure progression of skills and comprehensive coverage of subjects. It is ambitious, ensuring that all students receive a rich and varied educational experience. Through delivery, we create meaningful learning opportunities that connect knowledge across subjects, fostering curiosity and engagement. For example, our History curriculum emphasises the importance of understanding local Jersey heritage while encouraging students to make connections to global events. Similarly, our French curriculum enhances linguistic skills and cultural appreciation, reflecting our geographic and cultural ties to France. Physical Education, creative arts, and outdoor learning are vital components, promoting holistic development and well-being. Our residential programme in KS2 provides opportunities for all children to develop independence whilst enriching the curriculum.

The curriculum is delivered through adaptive teaching approaches tailored to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring equity and accessibility. Teachers employ innovative strategies to engage students actively in their learning, emphasising inquiry, collaboration, and problem-solving. Regular assessment and feedback ensure continuous improvement and the alignment of outcomes with our core values. Our commitment to residential trips provides opportunities for memorable experiences which enhance learning and engagement. Our focus on inclusion means every child, regardless of ability or background, is supported to achieve their best through targeted interventions and high-quality teaching.

Impact

The impact of our carefully designed curriculum is seen in the broad achievements of our pupils; they are well-rounded, confident, and reflective and have a strong moral compass as global citizens with a sense of pride in their identity and heritage. By the end of KS2, pupils are expected to have developed a love of reading, a thirst for inquiry, positive relationships, problem-solving skills applicable across a range of contexts and key competencies in English and Maths.  Ultimately, our curriculum ensures that every child is prepared not only for the next stages of their education but also to thrive in a diverse and dynamic world.
