Science
Pupils’ journey to become scientists begins in their earliest days in Reception where they begin developing a rich base of knowledge through enhanced experimental play and exploration. As they continue through the school, our practical, meaningful and engaging curriculum supports pupils to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to comprehend, the ever-advancing scientific and technological world with excitement and enquiry. We aim to stitch together cohesively strands of biology, chemistry and physics as children progress through the year groups to give them a practical understanding of the world around them. The curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to transform their own natural curiosity into scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through observation, questioning, hypothesising and exploration. We seek to inspire a thirst for deeper understanding and the skills to communicate and evaluate their findings with strong scientific literacy as well as being able to report their research regarding the findings of others. Pupils learn about the concepts, models and discoveries that have revolutionised scientific understanding today, and are supported to challenge and develop these findings in their own investigations.
