Your child's report is coming home today. It summarises achievements across a range of curriculum subjects and outlines areas to work on between now and July. These targets are things you can support with, too. We will ask the children not to open these as they are addressed to parents. They have been proofread at least twice, but we are human - if there is a typo let us know, and we will reissue them. The children are to be congratulated on their commitment to learning, motivation, enthusiasm and progress. We are so proud of each and every one of them and your support in their learning journey is hugely appreciated. Parent consultation appointments will be scheduled after Easter.
Movie Night
We are delighted to be able to offer the children a movie night 5pm-6.30pm on Thursday 14th March. Tickets are available on ParentPay at £4 to include a small bag of sweets, a packet of crisps and some raisins. Children are asked to bring their own water bottles. Children will select the films next week.
Staffing news
Mrs Dawson will be moving to Mont a L'abbe School in July, after twelve years. Mrs Dawson has considerable knowledge and expertise in special educational needs and inclusion, and she will be a huge asset to her new school. Nearer the time, we will have the opportunity to thank her formally for her significant contribution to Les Landes.
Miss Rogers, our Reception class teaching assistant, will also be leaving at the end of the Spring term. Miss Rogers has been with us for two years and is making a career change to finance. I would like to thank her for the last two years and we all wish her well in her new career.
British Science Week 8-17 March (I know, that's longer than a week!)
To celebrate, we are entering a couple of national competitions. There are two options:
Anything to do with time (for example, a poster about how to make a sand timer or how a clock works, how long different types of animals live, how scientists discovered things (how scientists understand what was different in the past or how a discovery was made), or anything else to do with time. 2. Engineering an invention that solves a problem. Inventions should be labelled to explain how they'd work and what problem it would solve.
Entries need to be returned to class teachers by 20th March
During Science Week, Mrs Hopkins will be running some lunchtime science activities for different year groups. Completing eight or more activities will lead to a Science Award.
World Book Day
A reminder that we will celebrate this next Thursday 7th March. Children are invited to come dressed as a book character, and they can bring the book along. if they are not comfortabel dressing up, uniform is fine. We have lots of book sharing events through the day. Thank you for your support. If we want great writiers, we need great readers because writing floats on a sea of words!
Our new Scholastic Book Club is up and running! Go to https://schools.scholastic.co.uk/les-landes/digital-book-club to browse the latest books and order online. For every £1 you spend on this month’s Book Club, our school will earn 20p in Scholastic Rewards.
Please place your order online by March 10th, 2024.
Long hair reminder
A polite reminder that all children with long hair must tie it back for school. The spread of headlice is reduced if we enforce this rule and it's a necessity for PE. This applied to boys and girls. Thank you for your support.
Ballet d'Jerri
Y5 and Y6 are benefitting from the expertise of Jersey's National Ballet, Ballet d'Jerri, this half term. The company is supporting the KS2 dance curriculum and the children have begin weekly sessions. If you would like to support them, their next premiere is at the Arts Centre at the end of March. Details here:
We allow dogs into the playground and onto the field but they must be on a lead. Thank you.

Cycling Crocodile
We will offer some cycling days between now and Easter, so that we have an established team ready for the Summer Term. The crocodile is wholly dependent on parental volunteers; please join us if you can so that we can share the load. Even one day every few weeks woud help. 0815-0830 from the Methodist Church.
