The Accreditation and Standards Committee agree that sufficient evidence was provided in the report to re-accredit Les Landes School as a UNICEF UK Gold: Rights Respecting School. This is such great news for our whole school. A huge thank you to Miss McMenamin for leading us to this point and to everyone who has remained committed to this journey. Here is our report:
Next week, each class will use their PSHE time to focus on this year's anti-bullying week theme of 'Choose Respect'. The children will explore what that looks like, raise awareness of bullying in schools and ways to prevent it. Support materials for parents is on our website:
Wednesday is World Kindness Day, where we will be reminding the children that being kind is the most important thing they can be.
BBC Children In Need - Friday 15th November
Although not one of our house charities, Children in Need is a fundraising event we always support. The charity funds projects for children and young people facing challenges such as poverty, mental health and inequality. This year, children can wear non-uniform (Pudsey clothes and ears welcome!) and you are invited to make a donation via ParentPay. Together we can help to make life lighter for some children facing challenges.
Uniform reminder
This week we have contacted parents if children are not wearing the correct uniform. To clarify, PE uniform:
No skins
New jogging bottoms - no need for shorts underneath
Old tracksuit bottoms - shorts needed underneath
No branded socks
As I explained at Meet the Teacher, and before half term, uniform is a leveller. Branded socks, although it might seem insignificant, creates a distinction we want to avoid. Please talk to your child's class teacher if there is a reason for your child not wearing correct uniform. Thank you.
One of our past pupils is Deputy Head Boy at Les Quennevais this year. Joss Harzo left Y6 in 2020 and we congratulate him on this significant achievement. Several of our past pupils are also prefects this year: Isla Parker, Joren Le Main and Joe Vibert. The Y7 transition project awarded 50% of the Headteacher awards to Les Landes children too, which speaks to the strength of our whole school curriculum. Congratulations to them all!
Guidance from Public Health
Article #24
As the winter months are now upon us, please use the link to access NHS guidance from the Health Department about vomiting and diarrhoea. Pupils should not return to school until 48 hours have elapsed from the last symptom.
If you are expecting your child to start in Reception in September and you haven't received a letter, please double-check with us that your child is registered. It is not automatic if you already have a child in the school. Thank you.
Online safety
Article #27, 34, 36
Mrs Webster and I attended the launch of an NSPCC Jersey and Safeguarding Partnership Board strategy to keep children free from harm online. The statistics and trends were shocking. Brett Le Meur has joined an island steering group supporting this work and together we will formulate a plan to raise awareness for staff and parents. More details at Parent Forum.
Parent Forum
Article #5
Our first Parent Forum of the school year will be held on Monday 18th November at 6pm. All parents are invited. It is an opportunity to hear about whole school developments and help shape the direction of the school. There will be items for information, clarification and discussion. There is also an opportunity for parents to add items to the agenda. Please contact Mrs Wiseman or your parent rep if you would like to add an item as we do not accept agenda items during the meeting. Please also let us know if you are coming, via the admin email. I will send an agenda next week.

Hot Lunches
Information here, including cut-off dates for ordering:
We will encourage the children to eat the hot lunches, although we can't insist they eat them. Staff will monitor what is being thrown in the bin so that we can alert you if they are not eating it. As we don't want children moving around the hall unnecessarily, all packed lunch rubbish will be coming home.
All children will need a snack and a water bottle.
